About Amarillo

Amarillo is the largest city in the Texas Panhandle and the region's center for employment, healthcare, education and shopping. The city straddles the Potter and Randall county line, which is why two homes on the same street can sit in different counties and different school districts.

Housing runs the full range here: pre-war bungalows and mid-century brick homes near the historic core, 1970s-1990s subdivisions across the southwest, and ongoing new construction along Loop 335 and the southern edge of the city. Because Loop 335 improvements keep opening up land, the newest inventory tends to sit farther south and west.

Buyers moving in from out of state usually compare Amarillo neighborhoods on three things: which school district the address falls in, how far the commute runs to the medical district or downtown, and whether the lot is on city utilities or a well and septic system. Those answers change block by block, so verify them for each specific address before writing an offer.
